LEPROSY SITUATION IN KASHMIR DIVISION J & K

Introduction
  • In J & K State, National Leprosy Eradication Programme(NLEP) was operational since 1962 with domiciliary treatment of Dapsone. The programme was renamed as National Leprosy Elimination Programme in 1983. When World Health Organization recommended MDT with a goal of Eradication of leprosy by the end of 2000 A.D. The Kashmir Division has already achieved elimination long back.
  • The J & K state is low endemic but the prevalence rate in Kashmir division is still lesser (Prevalence Rate (PR/10000) of Kashmir Division at present is 0.02% and Annual New Case Detection rate (ANCDR /100000) is 0.19%).

  • Materials and Supplies

    Multidrug therapy:

    MDT is being provided to the patients free of cost at all Health Institutions of Kashmir valley under the supervision of District Leprosy societies.


    Material and Supplies:
  • In addition to Anti leprosy drugs, supportive medicine (SM) which are not available in Government Hospitals are being provided to the leprosy patients.
  • Patients are provided with MCR footwear. In 2016-17 , 71 MCR footwear has been distributed.
  • Lab. Regents (L.R) are being provided to Govt.Hospitals so that the skin smear test are done free of Cost.
  • The Funds for Printing work (formats / Poster Hand bills etc) are provided to PHC/ Block through District Leprosy Societies .
  • In the Leper hospital , Srinagar, There are 101 inmates out of which 80 are old patients and 20 patients are the contacts. These all inmates are provided with supportive medicine, Footwear, Self care kit, clothing , food and quarters are being provided to them in which they reside.
